Shirts

A shirt, as we all know is a garment for the upper body. A shirt is probably the first known cloth garment to the human race. A Shirt is believed to have been discovered in 3000B.C. in Egypt. It was initially used as an undergarment by men with an outerwear such as sweaters, coats and jackets. It was an item of men's underwear until the twentieth century. A shirt is typically designed with basic parts such as the collar, sleeves with or without cuffs and a full vertical opening with buttons or snaps.

This originally used undergarment is now the modern shirt. The various styles and fabrics used in shirts have evolved over time, from plain un-dyed fabrics and simple designs to vibrant colors and fancy designs. Initially shirts were crafted out of only natural fabrics like linen and cotton; today we see shirts made in variety of fabrics like polyester, viscose and other synthetic fabrics. Cotton remains the preferred fabric by most. Others prefer a mix of Polyester and Cotton (poly-cotton). In today’s modern world shirt is no more limited to use by men. Women also use shirts customized to the feminine requirements. It is believed that women began wearing shirts in 1860 in Europe and America.

A typical shirt originating in the Hawaiian region is known as the Aloha shirt or famously known as the Hawaiian shirt. This style of shirt is globally appreciated and is a premier textile export of the Hawaii manufacturing industry. Hawaiian shirts are printed, mostly short-sleeved, and collared with buttons on the front vertical opening. At times they are made with opening for buttons just down to the chest (pullover).

Customization

Customization refers to producing or manufacturing goods or products to cater to the particular requirement of an individual. These are custom made products to suit the need of the customer. The most commonly used products when customized make a distinct impression and help pull attention. Customization when coupled with branding adds dramatically to the marketing aspect of the brand.

However, branding on a single unit of customized product is not a viable option. Hence, mass customization is a sought after solution for branding and marketing.
Mass customization help maintain a lower cost of manufacturing per unit of the product.

Customized and branded products stand distinctly against the commodity type products and are more attractive almost at the same price or a marginal price difference.

Customization with branding improves brand visibility and helps in brand recall.
Customized products are highly used as uniforms and also make a good give away item for employee appreciation, customer loyalty or simply as a good will.

Apparel Stuff R Us specializes in customization of 3 basic, everyday use products like shirts, ties and scarves.

Customization on shirts: Apparel Stuff R Us particularly works on customization of Hawaiian shirts. Poly is the most commonly use fabric for these Hawaiian shirts. The fabric makes these shirts easy to use as they don’t need ironing and are simply wash and wear shirts. The in-house designing team customizes a print for your shirts using your logo.
Customers prefer to enhance their customized shirts with customized/ matching bandanas.

Customization on ties: Apparel Stuff R Us manufactures custom neckties, custom ties bowties and custom clip-ons ties. Custom ties can be printed or woven.  The custom ties are made in either silk or polyester. Our artists will help you design a unique custom tie pattern utilizing your logo and/or theme with as many colors as desired.

Customization on scarves: Apparel Stuff R Us makes custom scarves using the customer logo for designing. The custom scarves are made in either printed silk or printed polyester and available in any size desired.

HISTORY OF CUSTOM HAWAIIAN SHIRTS

The modern Hawaiian or Aloha shirt was created in the early 1930s by a Chinese merchant Ellery Chun in Waikiki. Chun began sewing brightly colored shirts for tourists out of old kimono fabrics he had leftover in stock. Chun trademarked the name Aloha. Local residents, especially surfers, and tourists bought every shirt they could from Chun's store. Apparel Stuff R Us produces custom Hawaiian shirts for many types of business to wear as uniforms, sales meetings, product launches, client & employee gifts, etc.

Alfred Shaheen, a textile manufacturer, revolutionized the garment industry in postwar Hawaii by designing, printing and producing aloha shirts. This was most likely the beginning of creating Custom Hawaiian Shirts.

In 1946, the Honolulu Chamber of Commerce funded a study of aloha shirts and designs for comfortable business clothing worn during the hot Hawaiian summers. The City and County of Honolulu passed a resolution allowing their employees to wear sport shirts from June–October. Locals needed the clothing for the festivals, and soon people in Hawaii began wearing the clothing in greater numbers on more of a daily basis. This caused a real boom in custom Hawaiian shirt sales.

In 1962, a professional association known as the Hawaiian Fashion Guild began to promote aloha shirts and clothing for use in the workplace, particularly as business attire. In a campaign called "Operation Liberation", the Guild distributed two aloha shirts to every member of the Hawaii House of Representatives and the Hawaii Senate. Subsequently, a resolution passed in the Senate recommending aloha attire be worn throughout the summer.

The popularity of the Aloha shirt boomed in the United States after World War II as major celebrities sported the Hawaiian wear. President Harry S. Truman wore Aloha shirts regularly during his tenure in the White House and in retirement. John Wayne and Duke Kahanamoku endorsed major custom Hawaiian shirts designer labels, while Elvis Presley, Jimmy Buffett, Bing Crosby, Richard Lewis, Arthur Godfrey, Johnny Weissmuller, comedian Gabriel Iglesias, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Randy Newman, Steve Bunce, Tobias Sammet, and Jay-Z entertained while wearing them. The dress code for employees of Trader Joe's includes custom Hawaiian shirts.

Aloha shirts have also become a highly sought after collector's item. They have a loyal following, with vintage custom Hawaiian shirts sometimes being sold for thousands of dollars. The most sought after Aloha shirts from the 1930s through the 1950s are the large percentage of Aloha shirts from that period made of rayon, since that fabric is the most comfortable to wear in warm weather.

History of Ties

Around 1944, ties started to become not only wider, but wilder. Widths reached 5 inches, and designs included Art Deco, hunting scenes, scenic "photographs", tropical themes, and even girlie prints, though more traditional designs were also available. The typical length was 48 inches. The Bold Look lasted until about 1951. Because the quantities per pattern were small, they were considered to be custom ties.

In the 1980s, narrower ties, some as narrow as 11⁄2 inches but more typically 3 to 31⁄4 inches wide, became popular again. Into the 1990s, as ties got wider again, increasingly unusual designs became common. Novelty (or joke) ties or deliberately designed to make a statement gained certain popularity in the 1980s and 1990s. These included custom ties featuring cartoon characters or pop culture icons. During this period, with men wearing their pants at their hips, ties lengthened to 57 inches. Custom ties became very popular during this time.

We at Apparel Stuff R Us are very proud at the great variety of patterns we’ve designed for our hundreds of clients’ custom ties.
